Production of a Cable Shield ground adapter

September 26, 2019

MIL-STD-1310H lays out the requirements for EMI and EMP hardness for all US Navy ships.  This requirement stipulates a 60 dB (factor of 1000 times) attenuation is required for all top side penetrations.  As a subject matter expert in this area Novel Parts has teamed up with Electronics Service to provide a new low cost highly effective cable shield ground adapter.  The current adapters suffer from:

-Corrosion

-Poor Installation

-Short Service Life

-High Cost

We have developed a derivative of the Navy recommended Cable Shield Ground Adapter to allow for ease of manufacture, installation, long service life , and subsequently competitive pricing.  We go tot he ships and perform the repair or installation of the parts getting direct feedback on the design from the installers to make immediate design changes to further improve the product, and ensure the customization needed for each unique scenario.

If you would like a quote for the parts in a kit, training, repair or new installation we will be happy to help.

Design of a High Dynamic Range Consumer Camera

November 29, 2017

This is an internal project where we are designing a consumer level high dynamic range camera.  We envision this to be a small form factor, somewhat larger than a GoPro to record over a 21 stop dynamic range.  The data can be saved as RAW for post process grading or tone mapped to 8 bit as the user sees fit.

We us a proprietary algorithm to rapidly merge and map all images to retain a perceptual correct brightness in the image, while retaining all of the images detail.

Our camera removes the need modify ISO, you effectively capture the entire dynamic range of a scene regardless of the camera settings.  Think, never having an over or under exposed image again, all done without modifying a single setting on the camera, just point and shoot!

More details coming soon!

Design of a Dynamic Air Volume Spacer

November 29, 2017

The quest for more adjustments for mountain bike suspension has driven the industry to come up with some amazing components.  Air spring based forks feel better today then they have ever before, however the almost all lack some level of mid stroke support.  A common coil spring has a linear feel to it, giving good initial compliance and mid stroke support, but little bottom out protection. An air springs is a power function, giving good bottom out support but not enough ramp up for mid stroke support, lending to steep head angles when things point down around turns and under braking.  This is typically compensated by altering damping, but damping only changes resistance as a function of velocity, not stroke position, the results is a harsh fork to prevent brake dive.

We are designing an insert that fits into any forks air chamber and non linearly changes the volume of the stroke to counter the power law of the spring rate.  This nonlinear volume change can be altered for greater mid stroke support and high final ramp up giving the best of both worlds.
